Itinerary

DAY 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ouarzazate – Agdez

Departing from Marrakech, the historic "Red City" and a significant former imperial city, we embark on a journey towards the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. As we drive through the scenic foothills, we are captivated by the enchanting presence of scattered Berber villages along the way. En route, we reach the renowned Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, a fortified village dating back to the 11th century and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Continuing our drive, we make a stop at Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Africa," boasting the largest filmmaking studios. Our route follows the kingdom's longest valley, spanning 1,052 kilometers, and showcases expansive palm tree oases. Finally, we arrive at Agadez, where we will spend the night.

DAY 2: Agdez – Zagora -Tamegroute – Mhamid – Chigaga Dunes

We continue our journey through the Draa Valley, passing by Zagora, where the remnants of an ancient Almoravid fortress still stand. As we proceed, we reach Tamagrout, a small town situated on the banks of the Draa River. Here, we have the opportunity to explore one of the oldest libraries in the kingdom. Continuing our drive along the Draa valley, we arrive at M'hamid, a humble village that bears resemblance to the villages we encountered earlier. From a vast plateau, we are greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of the massive Chigaga sand dune. Embarking on a camel ride, we venture towards this remarkable natural wonder, where we witness a breathtaking sunset amidst the towering sand dunes. Tonight, we will spend the night in a Berber camp, reveling in the enchanting view of the starlit sky.

DAY 3: Chigaga Dunes – Iriki Lake – Foumzguid – Tazenakht – Ait Benhaddou

Leaving Chigaga behind, we embark on a captivating journey through serene and mesmerizing sand dunes, occasionally passing by the dried-up natural lake of Iriki. Once teeming with water and diverse bird species, this lake held a different sight three decades ago. After an adventurous off-road drive, we transition onto a regular road, traversing the tranquil and sleepy Berber town of Foum-Zguid. Continuing our expedition, we make a stop in Taznakht, a former trading post renowned for its vibrant carpet industry, making it one of the largest carpet centers in the kingdom. With a smooth drive, we reach the revered UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, an ancient fortified village dating back to the 11th century, where we will spend the night.

DAY 4: Ait Benhaddou – Telouet- Tichka Pass – Marrakech

A mere 40 km away from Ait Benhaddou Kasbah lies the remarkable Kasbah of Telout, which once served as a vital stop along the caravan routes connecting the Sahara Desert to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains. This historic stronghold was a symbol of power for the El Glaoui family, who were granted political authority over the regions south of the High Atlas Mountains by King Moulay Hassan. The influence of the Glaouis rivaled that of the sultan himself. Although the palace is showing signs of decay and gradual collapse, visitors can still explore its grounds. Restoration efforts were initiated in 2010 to preserve this significant site. After enjoying a delightful lunch at the Pass of Tichka, we continue our journey towards the vibrant city of Marrakech.
